| Cash games are where Ivey is most at home, hidden away from prying eyes and able to play free from distractions |
|
Perhaps the most illuminating fact about Phil Ivey is that, unlike many other high profile poker players, he requires no nickname. No added persona is needed to strike fear into his opponents – the man alone carries a presence that is enough to intimidate all but the most impassive of players.

The dynamic poker-playing duo of Di “Urindanger” Dang and Hac “trex313″ Dang have been lighting up the high-stakes profit charts in 2009, and Di was particularly dominant last night, winning five of the biggest PLO hands against Full Tilt pro Gus Hansen.
It shouldn’t really come as that much of a surprise that the Great Dane lost a few pots, as you can read about some bad sessions here and here.
Urindanger wasn’t just picking on Hansen, however, as he also picked up pots against Thomas Wahlroos, LokoIsBack, bballer88 and various others. Of the top 25 hands covered by MarketPulse, Urindanger could lay claim to winning 15 of them.
The biggest hand of the night came at the aptly named Hansen Knockout table on Full Tilt Poker.

On the first day of the 111th Congress, US Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) reintroduced the Midnight Rule Act (H.R. 34), a bill designed to counter the effects of last-minute “midnight” rule-making by an outgoing administration. Specifically, Nadler’s bill would make any rules adopted during the last 90 days of a president’s term subject to the approval of the incoming administration’s cabinet secretaries.
If made law, H.R. 34 would retroactively apply to any rule adopted on or after October 22, 2008. That means the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, the regulations for which were finalized on November 12, 2008, could be subject to review by the incoming Obama administration if H.R. The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) announced this week that the oral argument in the appeal of its lawsuit challenging the UIGEA will likely be held this April.
With iMEGA’s appeal and the government’s response having been filed, the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which will consider the appeal, has asked both sides for dates in April on which they would be available for the oral argument.
“We’re very happy the Court is moving forward to schedule oral arguments,” said Joe Brennan Jr., iMEGA chairman. “We’re confident we have a strong suit, and it will be difficult for the Department of Justice to defend UIGEA, because it is so fatally flawed.”
The federal lawsuit, iMEGA v.

Still think poker is just a game of chance? All you have to do is take a look at the 2009 MarketPulse leaderboard to realize that’s just not true.
Halfway through the first month of a new year and the MarketPulse standings are already starting to look much like the 2008 ones, with both Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Phil Ivey well out in front of all other competition on the Money Makers list.
As PokerListings previously reported, durrrr and Ivey went head to head a couple of times earlier in the month, with Dwan taking the first several battles in what is sure to be a year-long war.
Ivey was victimized in the two biggest pots of the year by the sharpest card on the Internet, with durrrr waxing him to the tune of $302,189 on Jan.

Marc Goodwin first came to prominence back in 2005 when he finished third in the Monte Carlo Millions behind Paul Jackson and Phil Ivey.
A great 2008, in Europe at least, led to his not only capturing the GUKPT Rankings, but also winning the prestigious European Rankings, which made him the No. 1 tournament player in Europe for 2008.
It wasn’t a cakewalk for Goodwin, though, by any means. He explained how the result in Monte Carlo contributed to tilting him slightly.
“The problem I had was that was like my second big tournament and I won $375,000 and thought ‘Wow, this is happening every week.’ Then all of a sudden it [takes] longer and longer until you win anything [in terms of] any large amounts of money.”
He conceded, “I’m not on about the difficulty of it, because it’s [been as] hard to win some of the ones I’ve won for £8,000 as some of the bigger ones.

The Antigua Sun reported on Wednesday that Antigua & Barbuda’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Errol Cort, has returned to the United States for a final round of trade negotiations with Bush administration officials regarding the years-long standoff between the countries over Internet gambling. Cort expessed optimism that his negotiations with United States Trade Relations (USTR) representatives could produce some form of agreement, despite previous meetings that led to no resolution. Cort is also scheduled to meet with US Department of Justice officials during his visit.
The continuing negotiations are in connection with the $21 million annual judgment awarded to Antigua & Barbuda by the World Trade Organization in connection with just one facet of online gambling, horseracing. Read full
“Ship it to Vivek! Show ‘em king high!” was the shout that came from one of the inebriated young men on the rail, the Rio’s Amazon Ballroom nearly empty at the 3 a.m. hour.
Vivek Rajkumar was about to make the final table of the $3,000 Limit Hold’em event at the 2007 World Series of Poker and remarkably, at 21 years and 9 days old, it would mark his fourth WSOP cash in six events played after only being of legal age to play live for barely a week. Rajkumar was no rookie, though, having cut his teeth online and made a solid living at the game for several years already. Here, he was attempting to break the record set by Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis earlier that month—to be the youngest player ever to win a WSOP bracelet. Read full
Gus Hansen has been one of the busiest players at the high-stakes online games on Full Tilt Poker in the new year, and Hac “trex313″ Dang was only too happy to rake a couple $200,000+ pots from him yesterday.
Hansen dominated the top 10 biggest pots yesterday, according to data collected by the PokerListings’ MarketPulse feature.
The majority of the games were action-oriented Pot-Limit Omaha, with players like the aforementioned Hansen and Dang as well as regulars like Tom “durrrr” Dwan and tsarrast all getting in on the action.
